Yes, I've Done This

Yes, I've done this slow fade and ignored texts/calls/emails.  I think it's totally okay when (any of these can apply):
  • You've only gone out a couple of times
  • You aren't officially a couple and there is no assumption of exclusivity
  • You haven't hooked up
  • You know you'll say something truly nasty if you acknowledge the person
  • You don't think he/she deserves closure because of something he/she did/said/etc (some examples, ran over your dog, behaved like an embarrassing drunk, tried to hook up with one of your friends, etc)

  1. No, I think it is completely rude. You are an adult and need to be mature. Even if you went out a couple of times you need to realize that it is someone's feelings at stake and it is only fair to just say, hey you are nice, but I am not interested.

    1. To each his own! I think it is adult to ignore someone rather than lying to him about how nice he is when he's not. I take feelings into account by not saying anything

  2. I've always been pro communication. Although, yes, there are instances when it's way easier to fade away rather than explain yourself to a complete jerk. Sometimes this is what it takes to keep your dignity.

    1. Yup! Sometimes the jerk just doesn't deserve acknowledgement

  3. This is a very sore subject for me. But I agree with you AG. If you haven't formed any sort of bond or relationship then it's OK to just walk away. But I feel that in a perfect world, we would all just say when we weren't interested and be done with it. Then there's no wonder what ever happened. But a perfect world this is not.

    1. Would it really feel great if you meet a girl, have coffee with her for 30 min, and for her to text you "I'm not interested" if you were to ask her out again?

  4. I'm on the fence about this one. There are some instances in which this is the only option, but other times I think people use this option as an easy escape.

    1. Hmm, I guess I've just met that many jerks that I don't even want to deal with

  5. I prefer the fade if I'm not exclusive or close to exclusivity with a guy.

If I don't hear back within 7 days max, I assume he's not interested and just move on.

It's better than having a talk, where feelings can be hurt.
