The List

Have you ever heard of "The List?" Two sisters wrote a book telling women how to tell if a guy will propose. Things they said included:
• He’ll make the first move.
• He’ll call her within 24 to 48 hours to set up a first date.
• He’ll make the first date easy and fun.
• He’ll call her within 24 hours to set up subsequent dates.
• He’ll want to talk to her every day and want to spend all of his free time with her.
• He’ll demonstrate unconditional loyalty.
• He’ll talk about marrying her in concrete terms and he’ll propose—or will let her know his intentions.

Are there men out there who don't try to make a date easy and fun? Call within 24 hours to set up subsequent dates, not sure about this, usually guys ask right at the end of the first, don't they? What?!?! Want's to talk every day and spend ALL his free time with her sounds like a desperate guy with nothing to do.

  1. Ugh, I hate these kinds of lists. There is no "one size fits all" when it comes to people. I hope women aren't buying into this. Also, if a guy wanted to spend all his free time with me, that would be super annoying.

  2. Everything is in list format these days, look at Buzzfeed. I agree with Anonymous above, no one can fit all of these conditions. If my boyfriend wanted to spend all of his free time with me, I'd tell him to get a life. Also, our first date was just a typical first date, we met for a couple of hours over drinks on a weeknight. He seemed nice enough so when he asked me out again I agreed.

  3. Oh my god, one of the reasons I married my husband was because he had a life. I love him but do I want to see him all the time? No! That list is funny. We had a fun first date but to this day he insists it wasn't a date. And I had to ask him out on the second date. Haha.

  4. I have a major issue with these lists, because they set these ridiculous expectations that just results in people getting disappointed. As Anonymous said, there is no one size fits all way to date or gauge someone's interest. All that matters is that he makes you feel wanted and is clear in his intentions.

    1. Of all the lists, I've had the biggest problem with this one

  5. Gotta love the listicles. I think this is too constrained, and as another anonymous said, there is no "one size fits all." Also, men don't "usually" ask at the end of a date for another one. Sometimes they nervously ask if you want to go out again, but they don't always follow up even if they do.

    1. When they don't follow up, I usually think, not interested enough
