Not Funny

Saw this on a guy's OkC profile.  This is not funny, it's obnoxious.  I hope this doesn't actually work for him.

"Yes, I am X'X" tall.  If that's too short for you, you can just move on."

Also not funny, the guy that sent "HELLLLLOOOOOO??????" when I ignored his first four emails.

Social awkwardness or autism?

  1. Well, this guy sounds kind of frustrated and I can see why. OKCupid can be brutal for guys....at least in the Bay Area. There have been several complaints among guys I know (including myself) about the pickiness of women on there and the difficulty getting someone to respond to you.

That being said, I can see one follow up email. But four and he was obnoxious about it? Bad form indeed. And it never helps to go negative on your profile. But it is very common for a girl to say in their profiles that guys under a certain height need not apply. It can be very disheartening for the shorter fellows out there.

    1. J, if it makes you feel better, girls tend to not reply everywhere. I've heard 1/20 reply in NY. Is it girls being too picky, guys having creepy profiles (not directed towards you and your friends), guys sending terrible emails, unattractive guys, or all of the above?

  2. Mmm, not autism, let's not go there, that's a sad situation. Social awkwardness, on the other hand, is aggravating.

One thing that really does piss me off is girls who are 5'2" demanding to date men who are 6'0". I may stay away from a 5'10" guy because I'm an inch shorter and I want to be able to wear heels sometimes. But for a girl who is shorter, a guy that is 6-8 inches taller is ideal!

Aside from that minor rant, I do think that 4 emails is over the top. I not only delete those from message 1, I block them to avoid follow-ups like that.

    1. I've actually have had a girl respond to me saying that she only dates men 5'10" or over. She was 5'3" I think and I'm 5'9". It was definitely a WTF moment.

But I'm kind of curious what the ladies perspective is on a guy doing a follow up email if he never hears back from his initial message. I've done it a few times with little success. But I've always wondered how it was perceived.

    2. Wouldn't it have been better if she just didn't reply than saying the 5'10" thing? So rude.

Hmmm, sometimes I forget a guy emailed me and his second email prompts me to reply...this is maybe 1/25 though. Depending on the guy, it could be nice or desperate/stalkerish

    3. j, I think one follow-up is fine, as long it's not aggressive or desperate. Cute is the way to go.

  3. J there is no point in follow up emails. If a girl is interested she will write back. End of story.

  4. Women often say that in their profiles re: weight. Height for men and weight for women are probably the most critical factors in a person not getting a date, online or offline. Sad world! I'm happy my 5'2" dad was able to get some love in life (from my taller mom)!

Being 4'11", most men are taller than me. My fiancé is 6'6" and I love making tall women who refuse to date shorter guys jealous >:)

    1. 90% of the guys I've gone out with are over 5'11." This is not because I've been seeking them out, I think they've been seeking me out (I am under 5'5")

    2. Way to be cocky, Anonymous. It's not unreasonable for a tall girl (like me) to want to date someone who makes me feel sexy and feminine - in my case, that's a taller man. There's no need to be smug about it.
