New Job

I started a new job.  It's not a corporate job.  The pay is terrible, the perks are great, and I'll meet many new people.  I had my heart set on bartender or receptionist (these are both low stress jobs compared to what I've dealt with for the last several years); it's neither of those.  Even on bad days, it wouldn't compare to the agony of dealing with some of my former coworkers.  I've had many sleepless nights from working in an office and writting countless 3am emails.

I haven't decided if I will say what my new job is yet.  I probably will, eventually.

  1. If you do decide to go back into the corporate world, maybe be more choosy about the company/industry/role. You and I have similar backgrounds, went to similar caliber colleges & business schools. I've pretty much always worked normal hours, even in tech and pulling a good salary. I've been fortunate to have managers that set the expectation that I do not need to be answering emails at all hours.

I've thought about getting a weekend barista job, just for fun, but it's hard to get a part-time job for only 8 hours a week.

    1. You're right, think the industry I was in was all wrong. Lots of backstabbing, political positioning, et al. That's great that you have normal hours and good managers!

      Part-time + 40 hours/week is tough

  2. Congrats on the new job! Glad you're out of the previous torturous work environment. Hopefully you will meet some great people in the new company, too :)

  3. Congrats! Hope this new job/environment works out for you - and I'm sure the severance package doesn't hurt matters. Ah, flexibility!
