So Confused

I'm so so so so confused.  I thought I had it figured out, but this ultra nice weather has thrown me.  SF weather has been really nice, which has made me like it again.

All my friends who are trying to get out of NYC have also thrown me.  You see, I was pretty sure, like 90% sure I'd move back to the NYC area this summer.  However, it seems like 90% of my New York Metropolitan area friends really really really want to get the out of NYC and are telling me how awful it is, which is triggering awful memories (I did leave there for a reason).

I don't know what to do anymore.  I was never excited about the idea of moving back to NYC, but I was excited to move somewhere.  Never thought I had the whole "fear of missing out thing," but now I think I have it for cities.

  1. It seems like New Yorkers, at least all my NYC friends, have a love-hate relationship with NY. There's a bit of pride like "our city is gritty, dirty, expensive, and cold... but it's the center of the universe and don't you dare talk shit about it."

I've never lived in NYC but travel there fairly often for work and I love it. Just would rather live in California where I can bike and do outdoor yoga 365 days of the year.

    have you lived in Chicago?

    1. You are right, there is definitely that "NY is awesome" pride. Wish I had a job with lots of NY travel.

Nope, haven't lived in Chicago. Just had dinner with a friend who moved to Chicago and he said most people are married by 28...

    2. Coming from Chicago, I can confirm that - and they are married to their college sweethearts. This doesn't apply to the transplants, but Chicago is full of locals!

    3. Sabrina, in your expert opinion, what % of the Chicago dwellers are transplants?

    4. Small %, nowhere close to San Francisco or NY. Lots of people from my MBA moved there for work opportunities, there's plenty of those there so it does attract some transplants certainly! But I feel like people there get married sooner.

  2. I'm sure this past winter didn't help people's opinions of NYC. It's still an amazing and vibrant city, but it's expensive and I'm sure has its own brand of douchebags, where men are concerned.

    1. Totally agree, NY has great energy. Hmm, the guy options do concern me a little bit...not that I've had spectacular luck out here. I do remember always having dates with guys I'd like to go out with out there

    2. Have you considered DC? I have single friends everywhere who complain about men and Peter Pans, so who knows!

    3. Hmm, I think I know one married couple in DC, it didn't really get on the list because I feel like I would have to follow politics to live there. I do know of a lot of people who have met their spouses in DC though

Where are most of the complaints coming from?
