Why Do I Even Bother?

Got interrogated on another date, ugh.  Why do I even bother?

He was good on paper and his emails were okay.  I guess flags were raised once he got my number and texted me a lot (on several of these occasions, he didn't wait for me to respond before sending another message).  The date started off friendly.  Then, I felt like I was defending a thesis.

When I got home, I was thinking, maybe I should give him the benefit of the doubt, maybe he was nervous, etc.  Well, I'm still annoyed, so, I think we have my answer.

  1. That sucks. But I think this is a symptom of online dating. There's no familiarity there. No friends to talk about, no work issues to find common ground on. No nothing. The only thing you have is the fact that there is a total stranger in front of each of you. So what happens? You ask questions to try and figure out who they are. In my experience, this doesn't go to well very often. Which is why everyone complains about online dating.

But at least he showed up. My date this weekend stood me up. She didn't tell me she was coming until 10 minutes before our date time. I was already at the bar with a beer in my hands. 2 days later and no explanation and no apology.

  3. Thanks, I didn't mean to hijack the thread. But this just falls into my narrative of what ails online dating. I think we might have to stop thinking of an online date the same way we would think of a traditional date.

    1. It's totally okay, J!

For the ladies, think it's more of an SF vs rest of the country thing. My friends who live in other cities, do not have the same online dating stories (like being interrogated...this is not my first interrogation date). Theirs are more, "The guy kept trying to get me drunk and take me home. Gross."
